Boy Scout Sunday & Girl Scout Sunday
First Church is a proud sponsor of several Boy & Girl Scout Troops that meet here each week. Boy Scout Sunday, held in February, and Girl Scout Sunday, held in March, are special days when we emphasize scouting as a ministry to children and youth, and recognize those in the church and the community who have served in this area. Heritage Sunday
Usually the last Sunday in April, Heritage Sunday is a special time to remember the history of the church, and commit to continuing God’s call. Camp Sunday
United Methodist Camping opportunities for children, youth, adults and families are highlighted on Camp Sunday , usually held in May. Information about Nebraska UM Camps is available all year at www.nemethodistcamps.org. Vacation Bible School Sunday
We celebrate the conclusion of an exciting week of Vacation Bible School at the Late Service the second Sunday in August. All of the children and adult volunteers who participated in VBS share with the congregation the songs they learned and Bible stories they studied. It is a joyous, colorful, and inspiring service that the children look forward to all year. Youth Sunday
The First Church Youth are invited to be leaders, greeters, ushers, lay readers, musicians, and communion servers at both worship services on Youth Sunday, usually the third Sunday in August. Those who participated in the summer mission trip share their experiences with the congregation. It is a wonderful Sunday that we celebrate the accomplishments of our Youth, and a great way to show them the support of the congregation. Children’s Sabbath
The national interfaith observance of Children’s Sabbath is on the second Sunday of October. The purpose is to educate the congregation of the needs of children, to help children grow as faithful disciples, reach out to children in the church and the community, and to relate to children around the world. This is also when the children in third grade are presented their Bibles, a gift from the church. Laity Sunday
On the third Sunday of October we celebrate the work and calling of our lay members as the Holy Spirit empowers their lives for ministry. All Saint’s Sunday
The first Sunday in November is when we celebrate the lives of those members who have died during the preceding year. During the worship services, family members are invited to bring a rose forward to the altar to honor those being remembered. Organ and Tissue Donor Sunday
This Sunday calls the church to honor the gift of life and brings the topic of organ and tissue donations into our worship service. Watch Night Service
Worshipers gather in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to participate in the Wesley’s Covenant Service. It is a special opportunity to confess our sins, renew the Covenant that binds us to God, and ask Christ to guide us in all that we do and are. This service also includes the sacrament of Holy Communion. |
