First UMC is located in the Northeast part of Lincoln, Nebraska. We value our neighbors including Nebraska Wesleyan University, University Place (UPCO), Lux Center for the Arts, Huntington, Dawes and Northeast public schools, and the surrounding businesses of our church community. We hope to continue to strengthen our partnerships and support efforts to ensure that our community thrives.
Service opportunities
Serve at Matt Talbot
NUMB Ride: The Numb Ride takes place once a year and takes place to help feed the hungry. One quarter of the money raised goes to Nebraska food banks.
People’s City Mission: First Sunday of each month we serve dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Anyone in the church family looking to do more service for the community and the church should contact Blake Stephens at 402-599-9030 (initial text is preferred) or at Blake@firstumclincoln.org.
We are looking to get started with many various projects, but first need the manpower.
Centerpointe: First Church is now accepting item donations for Centerpointe and the homeless population that they work with and house. Basic toiletry items, soap, household cleaning supplies, alarm clocks, cooking utensils, and other basic household supplies will go straight into the hands of those who desperately need it. Please no monetary donations to Centerpointe, they prefer items.
Other service opportunities: These opportunities can be every week or once! We are always in need of those willing to give our regular helpers a backup when needed.
Sunday school helpers
9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sundays
Teach Sunday school, do crafts and games with children. Sunday school classes are ages K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. We also have a middle school and high school classes.
Wednesday night FROG (Fully Rely On God)
6-7:15 p.m. help with children bible class. Play games, crafts and plan weekly activities.
Children’s church leaders and Nursery volunteers
During the 10:45 service we have a children’s moment during the scripture and sermon time. Volunteers can sign up for a Sunday to be a special helper and do bible lessons and craft with children.
